Staff Town Hall Meeting - Shared screen with speaker view
Vera Tylecek - City College
03:49
Hello All this is Vera
A K
07:58
Mary, at one of the first BLM-themed student town halls you said you were working hard on getting a student forum out to us as soon as possible. When should we expect to see it?
A K
08:41
I've never seen Mitch on campus
A K
12:18
oh you mean your response to when the echo park encampments were cleared out?
Laurel Paley
13:55
Councilmember O’Farrell, when our campus is active (i.e. not during Covid times), there is “street cleaning”—no parking—on Heliotrope, Wednesdays from 11 am to 2 pm—the busiest time for our students, when they need street parking the most. Is it possible to change that “street cleaning” time to Fridays, when the campus is much quieter? Students (and others) are always getting ticketed. It would help our students tremendously, especially our lowest-income students. Thank you.
A K
13:57
you always default to this. you always talk about this SAME ONE accomplishment even after the Peoples Budget hearing with BLM. we don't really care what you've done we care about what you're doing to help.
Paul Andrei Mamac
14:21
Are there any plans to Host an open Zoom-Debate[s] where students are allowed to exchange their thoughts with other students, regarding the on going events around our country?
Christine Ruther
15:32
I don't see why removing the Columbus statue is important when he never stepped foot on American soil. Tearing down history seems regressive.
Art
15:52
if we're talking about indigenous rights where's the discussion on land repatriation? reparations?
Paul Andrei Mamac
15:56
I don't see why we are getting rid of holidays
A K
16:09
do you think changing street names is going to stop black & brown people from being killed by police?
C. Lopez
16:52
- [ ] Why did you and the LAPD fight to fire Ashley Bennet from LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) after they tried proposing a bargain that would allow Echo park residents to stay in their community until permanent housing became available and would keep the park safe and clean. They asked to meet with their council member to brainstorm solutions (it was rejected and still has not been granted) and instead Ashley Bennet was fired from her job because you thought she was “instigating anarchy in the park”
A K
16:54
we need an immediate full DEFUNDING of the police.
Paul Andrei Mamac
17:21
Why are we not talking about why are they being shot? most of the shooting are due to persons in the process of attacking the officers
C. Lopez
18:00
POLICE OFFICERS SHOULD KNOW HOW TO DE-ESCALATE WITHOUT SHOOTING AND KILLING PPL
Christine Ruther
18:20
De-escalation is not always possible.
Paul Andrei Mamac
18:23
Officers are people too
Mario DL
18:34
people with guns
Paul Andrei Mamac
18:36
they have family to go home too
A K
18:41
the same 2 trolls at every meeting
Art
18:45
plenty of "developed" countries around the world have police forces equipped with non-lethal weapons and no guns
C. Lopez
18:48
And they chose to join the police, they know the repercussions
C. Lopez
18:57
yeeeeeeuup
Art
19:01
these same countries have far lower crime rates
Paul Andrei Mamac
19:04
If someone rushed me with a dangerous intent they're going down
C. Lopez
19:11
What is he talking abt
Art
19:11
good thing you're not a cop
Mario DL
19:21
and thats the kind of mentality that we don’t need
Christine Ruther
19:31
Who would choose to join the police if they lose their rights to defend themselves?
Paul Andrei Mamac
19:39
Exacvtly
Art
19:44
defending yourself =/= killing another person
Isma
19:45
Policing as we now it, must go. It is very obvious, they are not protecting colored people. This cannot be sugar coated. The police is the protector of the STATUS QUO.
Mario DL
20:26
Speaking of long-term solutions, how about you push to cancel rent?
Paul Andrei Mamac
20:31
Why are we not talking about the 8 year old girl who got shot by a black man just two days ago?
A K
20:48
Mitch, you are on the record for accepting over 28,000 dollars from the Los Angeles Police Protective League. So your interests directly lie with the police and not with us. What have you done with these donations?
C. Lopez
20:57
yessssss
C. Lopez
20:58
At AK
C. Lopez
21:23
let’s not get started on what the LAPPL thinks of the Black Lives Matter movement
C. Lopez
21:51
Jamie McBride - the leader literally called BLM an anti-police hate group - on record
Paul Andrei Mamac
21:53
If we defund the police, who will keep the law & order?
Christine Ruther
22:06
It'll be CHAZ everywhere
C. Lopez
22:08
gotta dream bigger buddy
A K
22:17
the LAPPL is a police gang. if anyone wants to learn more about the history of them letting killer cops go : If you're interested in learning more about the history of this police gang and how they protect each other: https://knock-la.com/the-los-angeles-police-protective-league-exposed-3140397676
Paul Andrei Mamac
22:25
someone who isn't ideologically possesses answer my question
Paul Andrei Mamac
22:36
who will keep law and order
Isma
22:46
They keep saying that not all cops, yet we have seen one intervene during the murdering of brown and black people. What does that mean, the goodness doesn’t apply to non-whites.
A K
23:01
community has always been more effective at keeping each other safe than police. police makes us feel unsafe.
Mario DL
23:05
you are also ideologically possessed
Paul Andrei Mamac
23:18
George Floyd was a career criminal by the way
Christine Ruther
23:21
AK does that apply to the community CHAZ occupied?
C. Lopez
23:29
And he still didn’t deserve to die Paul
Art
23:34
we are paying police right now to arrest and murder black and brown people, is that law and order?
Paul Andrei Mamac
23:43
never claim he deserve to die
Art
23:44
also give out speeding tickets
Art
23:48
ridiculous
C. Lopez
23:52
then why did you say that?
Paul Andrei Mamac
24:11
You need facts
A K
24:20
im not convinced mary didnt pay paul and christine to attend these town halls
Mario DL
24:24
We need liberation, not reform
Art
24:26
George Floyd was a person to, he had family to go home too
Christine Ruther
24:29
BLM has clearly stated they don't want police reform. They want abolition of police.
A K
24:42
yes we want abolition.
Isma
25:04
The police is not keeping the community. They are an occupation army trained to kill colored people.
Paul Andrei Mamac
25:10
BLM doesn't represent the entire Black community
A K
25:17
we need to invest that money into care for our communities
Paul Andrei Mamac
25:17
They are Marxist
C. Lopez
25:21
lol
C. Lopez
25:29

C. Lopez
26:10

Michael Hetman
26:24

Isma
26:54
The American police is a killing machine.
Paul Andrei Mamac
27:14
Evidence?
Mario DL
27:29
the KKK
A K
27:29
Mitch we aren't fooled by your vaguely progressive rhetoric We know your history about criminalizing the unhoused
Christine Ruther
27:36
BLM is just creating more racism with all the rioting that occurs at their protests.
Art
27:53
police killings have remained constant number-wise throughout quarantine, even when the majority of people remain at home...
Isma
28:04
Not enough!
Isma
29:06
While people are protesting, police killing continues. These guys are killing machines.
Yanick Thomassaint
29:07
President, what do you plan to do about some of the racist staff in the cinema department? I have my share and I'm sure others also. I do have proofs.
Art
29:13
Minneapolis PD had all of these reform measures implemented prior to George Floyd's murder
A K
29:14
reform? as in putting more money unti the police?
Christine Ruther
29:17
I'm all for more training, but that sounds like the police needs a larger budget, not defunding.
C. Lopez
29:36
in our police orce
A K
29:44
yes yanick^
A K
30:09
mitch you are anti poor
A K
30:42

A K
33:46

Isma
33:52
We need to see change in America. Black people are sick and tired of being victimized. No going back. No justice no peace.
Paul Andrei Mamac
34:13
stop advocating victimhood mentality
Christine Ruther
34:18
No peace, no justice Isma.
Mario DL
34:38
stop advocating white supremacy Paul
Christine Ruther
34:55
The landlord is just trying to earn a living, no different from the renters.
Paul Andrei Mamac
34:58

A K
34:58

No one the our LACCD to represent our District at your Community or Town Hall meetings to here our concerns that our College is in. The area around the college are dirty and too much homeless. Why would any one want to come to this campus or want to continue to work here to see the dirt and trash all round this college and other college. Vera
Paul Andrei Mamac
40:01

41:02
Can we please consider Professor MELVIN ARON for this type of panel, PLEASE :)
Art

Mary- You spoke in your email regarding anti racism and racial equity at LACC. The framework states “make a structural and permanent change to root out the ill effects of racism and bias from our classrooms” As Yanik brought up, how do we go about ensuring an anti-racist curriculum and teaching practices are integrated are anti-racist?
A K
43:49

43:57
Paul, you just told a big lie.
Chris Armstead
43:58
Do we need to focus on how can we get back to normal as soon as the pandemic is done? We're NOT even through the end of the 1st wave. It has cost nearly 130,000 people dying due to related covad-19 diseases.
